From Dangal to Mohenjo Daro: Bollywood hopes for a happy ending to 2016
Earlier this month, HT had reported that the first half of the year has been “reasonably good” for Bollywood, with Hollywood films ruling the roost. But experts suggest the second half of the year could be great for B-Town. It’s rare, but the coming few months will see the releases of top stars such as Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan (he is already having a record-breaking run at the box office with Sultan), Aamir Khan, Akshay Kumar, Ajay Devgn and Hrithik Roshan. The top six stars’ films have a collective budget of almost Rs 500 crore (as per trade estimates) riding on them. While Akshay and Hrithik will have a box-office clash with Rustom and Mohenjo Daro, Aamir’s Dangal will see a Christmas release. Ajay’s directorial venture (he is also acting in the film), Shivaay, will hit the screens on Diwali and Shah Rukh Khan will be seen in Gauri Shinde’s next.“It might just turn into being a blockbuster year. If a big film like Sultan does such great business, it only raises the benchmark for other top-rated stars’ films, which is great for audiences and the trade,” says trade analyst Taran Adarsh.Apart from the big stars’ films, trade experts point out that the coming few months will see an interesting line-up of movies every second week, such as MS Dhoni – The Untold Story, Baar Baar Dekho, Dishoom, Ae Dil Hai Mushkil and Befikre. “If big stars’ films do record-breaking business, it will be great for me, because it augurs well for the industry. It will only enable makers to back more good films. It’s a great, positive sign,” says director Anees Bazmee.Experts also feel that since Sultan has done exceedingly well (it has done a business of over Rs 200 crore till now), the bar has been raised even further. “Since it has set the standards high, it’ll be interesting to see how other stars and their films up their game. Plus, we still have many other festive weekends left in the year, which might be good for the box office,” says trade expert Amod Mehra. It’s not surprising then that exhibitors, too, are keeping their fingers crossed, especially after Sultan’s good run. “The next six months will be exciting, as big stars’ films are always loaded with expectations. Be it the posters, songs or trailers of these films, people are finding them promising,” says exhibitor-distributor Akshaye Rathi.

Angry Kareena Kapoor FINALLY opens up on pregnancy; asks everyone to STOP making it a National casualty!
Saif Ali Khan was the first one who had happily announced Kareena Kapoor Khan’spregnancy news at the beginning of this month saying, “My wife and I would like to announce that we are expecting our first child in December. We would like to thank our well wishers for their blessings and support and also the press for their discretion and patience.” It was really sweet of Saif to inform one and all about the good news. However, turns out Kareena doesn’t want this unnecessary attention just because she’s pregnant . Yes! The mom-to-be finally talks about the feeling of becoming a mother but alas! She is not liking the fact how everyone is so interested in her pregnancy and are also spreading rumours about her maternity break. Yes!
In this explosive interview with Hindustan Times, Kareena just broke her silence saying, “I’m pregnant, not a corpse. And what maternity break? It’s the most normal thing on earth to produce a child. It is high time the media back off, and stop treating me any different than I ever was. Anybody who is bothered shouldn’t work with me… but my work goes on as is, like always. Stop making it a national casualty. We are in 2016, not in the 1800s. Probably, even at that time, people were way more civilised and normal than the way the media is behaving and speculating now,” says Kareena, adding, “I’m just fed-up of people making it (her pregnancy) to be a death of some sort. In fact, it should be a message to a lot of people that marriage or having a family has absolutely nothing to do with my career.”

Salman Khan and Anushka Sharma's "Sultan" is unstoppable at the worldwide box office. The sports drama, directed by Ali Abbas Zafar, is galloping towards the Rs. 400 crore mark at the worldwide box office.
"Sultan" will be probably the first Bollywood film to earn over Rs. 400 crore globally in just the first week, i.e. within nine days of its release. "Sultan" has so far minted Rs. 364.08 crore from its seven-day domestic run and five-day overseas run. The film had a five-day long extended weekend, which helped "Sultan" to rake in a good figure from its domestic and overseas box office.Domestic box office
"Sultan" has crossed the Rs. 200 crore mark in India with its nett seven-day box-office collection. The Salman-Anushka starrer has shattered another record becoming the first Hindi film to achieve the feat in just seven days run. "Sultan" earned over Rs. 200 crore in seven days, while the other double century grossers "Dhoom 3," "PK" and "Bajrangi Bhaijaan" took nine days.
"#Sultan creates HISTORY... First Hindi film to cross ₹ 200 cr nett in 7 days... #PK, #BajrangiBhaijaan and #Dhoom3 - all took 9 days," trade analyst Taran Adarsh tweeted.
With "Sultan" earning over Rs. 200 crore, Salman is now the only actor to have three films in the double century club. "Kick," "Prem Ratan Dhan Payo" and "Sultan" are the Rs. 200 crore grossing films in India. This is the second time Anushka has made it to the Rs. 200 crore club, and director Ali has made his debut.
